A BIT ABOUT ME...

My Writing Journey

Hello! My name is Katie Patterson and welcome to my website!

I have always loved writing. In fact, I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. In elementary school I found myself writing short stories. I even wrote and illustrated my own picture book in the 5th grade for my family on the home printer. Around the age of twelve is when I really got into writing and I attempted to write an “epic” trilogy in a series of notebooks.

I’m a Colorado native who loves to ski and travel, but the inspiration for my debut novel Ride came from spending every summer at my grandparent’s lake house in Minnesota. I wrote Ride when I was fifteen and started it at the lake. There’s nothing like a pretty sunset or quality family time to give me great inspiration. I completed Ride that summer, left the file on the computer and continued on with life.

I continued to write after completing Ride, but mostly just short stories I came up with here and there. In 2017, I rediscovered Ride and shared it with my family. My grandpa encouraged me to get it published and I did! My debut novel was officially released from Outskirts Press in September of 2018.

In 2019 Ride won the Next Generation Indie Book Award for General Novel/Fiction. The Next Generation Indie Book Awards is the largest International awards program for indie authors and independent publishers.

I recently graduated college in 2020 from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a licensure in secondary science education. l'll begin teaching science to middle schoolers this Fall and I cannot wait. I have always wanted to be a teacher!

I hope to complete my second novel soon and I think that dream will also become a reality.
