BIO
Hello! My name is Katie Patterson and welcome to my website!
I have always loved writing. In fact, I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember. In elementary school I found myself writing short stories. I even wrote and illustrated my own picture book in the 5th grade for my family on the home printer. Around the age of twelve is when I really got into writing and I attempted to write an “epic” trilogy in a series of notebooks.
I’m a Colorado native who loves to ski and travel, but the inspiration for my debut novel Ride came from spending every summer at my grandparents’ lake house in Minnesota. I wrote Ride when I was fifteen and started it at the lake. There’s nothing like a pretty sunset or quality family time to give me great inspiration. I completed Ride that summer, left the file on the computer and continued on with life.
I continued to write after completing Ride, but mostly just short stories I came up with here and there. In 2017, I rediscovered Ride and shared it with my family. My grandpa encouraged me to get it published and I did! My debut novel was officially released from Outskirts Press in September of 2018.
In 2019 Ride won the Next Generation Indie Book Award for General Novel/Fiction. The Next Generation Indie Book Awards is the largest International awards program for indie authors and independent publishers.
I recently graduated college in 2020 from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a licensure in secondary science education (yes I love writing and science). I’ll begin teaching science to middle schoolers this Fall and I cannot wait. I have always wanted to be a teacher!
I hope to complete my second novel soon and I think that dream will also become a reality.

Synopsis
Everything Happens for a Reason... Seventeen-year-old Alyson Butler is living a dream life in Los Angeles, California, and she’s hoping for the perfect summer before her senior year. The daughter of two successful Hollywood professionals, she enjoys a life of privilege, wealth, parties, and independence—as she rarely sees her parents. But when an unfortunate decision lands Alyson in rural Minnesota as punishment to spend the summer with her grandparents at Davis Lake, she quickly realizes that living in this small town will be a far cry from the glitz and glam she is accustomed to.
A slow start at the lake has Alyson believing she won’t survive beyond the first week, but things begin to change when the seemingly perfect Marc Maylore and his friends arrive a few doors down. As Alyson tries hard to keep her own secrets from those she meets, she soon realizes there may be more to this little town than she initially thought—and that anyone can be hiding something.
